Giant breeds are classified as dogs weighing over 45kg when adult.

Because of their large size and high activity levels, the joints of giant breed dogs are put under great stress. During growth and throughout life, it is essential to feed a totally balanced food with no deficiencies or excess to ensure joint health, and our Giant food is specially formulated to help support healthy joints with glucosamine and chondroitin.

Giant breeds can also be prone to sensitive digestion, so we use only highly digestible proteins in our Giant range, plus prebiotics during growth to help ensure a balanced intestinal flora.

Royal Canin Giant Junior helps to ensure digestive safety by means of very digestible proteins and reduced starch content. Specific fibres in the Psyllium seed regulate digestive transit and improve stools quality. It ensures optimal muscular development with an increased level of very digestible proteins and L-carnitine, nutrients which are needed for powerful muscles without surplus fat. Energy levels are moderate to allow gradual growth to optimum adult bodyweight. Chondroitin and glucosamine help support joint health.

After eight months, the growth rate of giant breeds slows down. The formation of joints and bones is almost complete and the puppy has reached 90% of its adult size. However, its growth is far from over. A giant dog does not reach adult-hood until between 18 and 24 months, depending on its breed. During this second stage, it will begin to fill out and gain muscle mass. Its weight will increase by one and a half times. The giant puppy also acquires its adult teeth after the age of eight months.
